Awaken on a space station, as Ava Turing, you with the station AI T.O.M. must find out what is going on with the ground team and why they are not responding. The Turning Test is a first-person puzzle solving game in which you use a power style gun to transfer energy to platforms, doors and other items to move forward.
General Gameplay
The Turing Test is a puzzle game in which you use energy to power devices, platforms, and other things to get to your next objective, overall The Turing Test is a first-person puzzle solving game. Game Visuals are very sharp. Everything from the backdrop of the settings to in game items are very easily seen and detailed. The colors in the game are more of a cooler tone and fit the settings of being in a space station. During our playtesting and special needs testing, some of our gamers had a harder time seeing the green and red colors in the game. As this is not the games fault, however you may need to adjust your monitor settings, so your gamer can see these colors. Also, we did not see anything that would be offensive graphically to any gamer. The in-game Audio is told through audio dialog between Ava and T.O.M. during the game. The in-game sound effects are done well and that everything can easily be heard. The game is in 5.1 surround sound and headset compatible, so you should not have any worries playing the game in either environment. In our play testing we did not hear much in language that would be equal to what you would hear in a PG movie. If anything, the language was minor and nothing too extreme. Again, a word of caution of usage of a headset and extended gameplay, parents/guardians please limit the usage to two hours with a 15-minute break. The Controls are very simple for the game. With the left thumb stick to move, right thumb stick to look around, the right trigger to shoot the energy balls into objects and one face button to interact with the in-game objects. The Turing Test is all about being very simple in its control scheme, so you can concentrate on the game puzzles from level to level. In our play testing we found that the default controller setup for the game is perfect for anyone to pick up and play the game. As the game is more of a “point and click” in its nature, PC gamers should not have any issues playing the game with either a controller or a keyboard and mouse. In our special needs gaming testing we did not see any issues with the controller setup, as all our gamers were able to play the game.
“What The Turing Test does right is combine a great puzzle solving game with a decent story and a mid-game twist that makes it all more interesting”
Family Friendly
One of the pleasant surprises that we had when reviewing The Turing Test is that the game was fun to play! As one of the biggest issues with puzzle games that they must be very engaging both to the mind and the fun of the game, The Turing Test does this right. The puzzles are not too hard or easy to solve but just some simple understanding of how the game work, how in game items work and what they can and cannot do will make your gaming experience a whole lot more. As far as the game content, we did not see anything that would be too offensive to any gamers in your gaming family. The story is engaging and towards the middle of the game will keep you even more interested as some things change for the game. As with any story driven game there is not much to do when the game is finished but if you play without looking online for help on the puzzles (We do encourage you to play with a guide for some of the later puzzles) In our play testing all our gaming members of our family really liked playing the game and that we saw that parents and young children really like it as they were both able to help each other solve the puzzles in the level. We highly recommend this game for parents and children to play with each other.
Closing
The Turing Test is a great puzzle game that will keep you engage from start to finish. Being a great parent/child game to play we highly recommend this for your digital library.
