Overcooked 2

Create meals in the kitchen again in this highly addictive couch co-op game that raises the bar as one of the best family friendly couch co-op games out there in Overcooked 2.

General Gameplay

In Overcooked 2, lots have changed but in a good way, and this makes the game fun for those that have played the first one.   In this time around, King Onion has screwed up again and now you and up to 3 other cooks must go back into the kitchen to save the world.  The Game Visuals for Overcooked 2 are almost the same as the first game.  Not much has changed but there are some graphical improvements in the graphics.  All the character models, shaped, backgrounds are very easily seen and that when you are running around you can see your characters and not get confused with other players.  Everything is very colorful and even for those that have a colorblind issue can still see everything in the game without any issues.  In our playtesting we did not run into any issues with the game and the graphics are very family friendly for all ages.  Audio for Overcooked 2 is very light hearted.  What is meant by that is the game has its standard audio cues like fires, food cooking, dishes clinking and other things that are standard in the game.  The sound and background music are designed to be light hearted and fun as it is a family television show, so in other words it is very family friendly.  As the game is text driven to tell the story the game does not have any spoken audio dialog.  In our playtesting we did not run into anything offensive in the game itself, if anything the game is very family friendly for all ages! The game is in 5.1 surround sound, however the game sounds fine in a 2.0 system as well in a gaming headset.  Again parents/guardians please use discretion when gamers using a gaming headset for over 2 hours.  The Controls for Overcooked 2 is very easy for all platforms.  There is a dash button, as action button and the control button to move your character.  The game is designed around to be easy for anyone to pick up and play without any trouble learning how the controller works.  For anyone that has played the first game will be at home with the controls for Overcooked 2.  Now one of the weird but interesting features in the game is to control two different cooks with one controller on the PS4, Xbox One and PC, but in our playtesting, we did not try this as everyone in our playtesting group was just waiting to play the game.  Also, in our playtesting we did not encounter any issues with the controller or even control default settings, if anything the controller setting were so easy that non-gamers had a great time picking up the game and playing it.

“Take everything that made the first Overcook a classic, add more levels, online play and more couch co-op fun and you get a game that is a must have in your digital library.”

Family Friendly

One of the best things about the first Overcooked game was the fact that they made the game a couch co-op style of game.  Being a local co-op game made it easy for anyone to pick up and play and a great family title for all ages to play.  The only complaint was that the game did not offer online play, but I personally felt that it took the fun of playing locally with people and the antics that come with a game like this.  Well I have to say and will say again that this is a MUST HAVE GAME for your digital library.  Not only is it fun for all ages but it is such an easy game to play for gamers and non-gamers alike and the best part is that the controls and game itself is very easy to learn and pick up and play.  When the game came across our desk, we knew that we had to test this with our families that are not gamers at heart but wanted to see how they would react to a game like this and we have to say that they loved it.  The nature of how fun and easy the game is making this a must have for any digital library.  The developers did everything right from the first one, added more levels, characters, and online play and now this is an even more fun game.  I encourage anyone that is thinking about picking up Overcooked 2 to also get the first one as the game itself is a gem to play and own.  Another thing about Overcooked 2 is that honestly it is a fun game. Making food, serving it and working as a team not only is a great way to bond with others but it helps both parents and children or other family members have fun and bond at the same time.  In our play testing, we saw when parents/guardians with play with children that a bond of teamwork was created as in the game you need to play as a team to win.  This is a great team building game to play as from young to old to work together to make the kitchen a success.  Again, if you want a great family friendly game that is all about teamwork this is a must have game, well both Overcooked games.  In our special needs game testing, we did not run into any issues with the graphics, audio, controls or even gameplay.  The only concern is for Nintendo Switch players to play on the mobile screen and the Joy-Cons, we recommend playing the game for Switch owners on a larger screen.  The only bad thing about the game is if you are playing online with others, they may be some lag, but this is more to the fault of an internet connection then the game.  Again, if you are planning to play the game online with others, be sure that the other parties have a fast internet connection.

Closing

Overcooked 2 is a great game, a must have for any gamers in your gaming family that love co-op games and the developer took what was great about the first game and made it better.  This is a must have game for your digital library.
