One Escape

Three buddies decide to rob a bank and they get caught.  Now you must help each one of the three to jailbreak.  Each character with their own strengths and special abilities will test you as you try to help them escape.

General Gameplay

One Escape is an action, stealth platformer where you play as one of the three bank robbers trying to break out of jail.  Each of the convicts has a special ability that gives them the advantage on the levels that they are trying to break away from the prison, the guards that patrol the area as well avoid any traps on the way.  The game is 2D style of action platformer where the game is very linear in its design to get from point A to B. The Game Visuals are created in a 16-bit style to showcase the game main characters, enemies, and backgrounds.  Simple in its design but effective to show how the game is.  The colors are bright and vivid enough to see on the screen and as the game does not offer a colorblind mode, it is not needed as the game’s colors can be easily seen without any problems.  The game graphics details have some details but as it is design to look like a 16-bit game.  The three main characters have their own looks and design to them and makes them feel unique when using them to play One Escape.  In our playtesting, we did not encounter any issues with the game graphics and found the game to be very family friendly for anyone ages 10 and up.  Audio in One Escape is also done in a 16-bit style.  You have your general sounds from alarms going off, to laser beams, camera moving, and some spoken dialog (extraordinarily little) in the game and some other basic sound effects that fit a stealth game.  One Escape has a basic soundtrack for the game, and it fits the action going on in the game.  One Escape is featured in 5.1 surround sound as well in 2.0 stereo sound and sound settings the game sounds fine.  In our playtesting, we did not hear anything that would be offensive to younger gamers hearing in the game.  Controls in One Escape are quite easy to use.  As there is a jump button, and a action button, each character has their own special ability that they can use and that ability is mapped to one of the controller buttons.  One Escape is designed to be able to pick up and play the game without any trouble.  As the game is designed for the consoles, there is no need for a special controller, and on the topic of controller settings, the game is very responsive as with stealth games the controls must be on point for the game to be more enjoyed.  In our special needs game testing, there were no issues with the game controller settings, or controller layout.

“A simple, but fun stealth game for those that like games like this, but the question we have is how did they get so buff? LOL”

Family Friendly

When it comes to stealth games, it is all about how quiet that you can be.  How cunning in your plan to get around guards, cameras, and other environments that block your way to getting to your goal.  Games like Dishonored, Splinter Cell Series, and others gave you multiple paths towards your goal where in One Escape, it is all about going with a basic skill set and just throwback fun of days of just using basic skills to get to your goal.  Your character can hide in the shadows, and each character has their own special ability to use to help hide, but the only way once the alarm is set off is to hide in the shadow for the bar to go back to normal for you to continue.  Now for some levels this was an annoyance as you are so close to the exit and must go back to a part of the level where you can hide, and this creates a more of a risk for you to be seen and caught.  The game has 60 levels to play through, 20 each for the three characters.  The levels can go from extremely easy to challenging, but nothing to hard for any gamer to get through with some trial and error.  Overall, the game is a fun stealth game for those that like stealth game.  Outside of finding money laying around some levels, there is nothing much to do in this game, however does this make this a bad game? No but this is more of a light stealth game.  This game is more for casual gamers more than anything else and its is a fun game to play for those looking for more of a stealth game that is not more hardcore with the stealth mechanics. The only complaint that we had about One Escape was that there was no more to do in each level outside of getting cash laying around in certain levels.  In our special needs game testing, we did not encounter any issues with the game visuals, audio or controls and found the game to be very special needs gaming friendly.

Closing

One Escape is a fun game for those that are looking for a beginner level of stealth games.  This is a fun game and should not be missed, and a great addition to your digital library.
