Lazy Galaxy: Rebel Story is a shooter in which you pilot a ship that is controlled by H-34-RT and as he awakes from a derelict space station and realizes that their enemy are in their space. So, he follows his old command and decides to fight the invaders, while trying to figure out what is going on. The game is a side scroller shooter in which as the story goes, you find fellow allies that become a part of your fighting armada and bring unique abilities to the table.
General Gameplay
Lazy Galaxy: Rebel Story is a shooter that is more about squad gameplay as you can have up to 2 additional ships to fight in levels reaching a boss. At the end of each level you can choose a power up that will be with you till the finishing of the game. The game offers different game modes that does include permadeath for your allied ships. The game also showcases a story mode for enjoying the game and better understanding of each character and their abilities. Also, the game supports local 2 player co-op support. The Game Visuals for Lazy Galaxy: Rebel Story are mode done in a 16-bit style to show off the ships, enemies and backgrounds. Even thought they are presented in a 16-bit style, the graphics are sharp enough to see every detail in all that is being shown in the game. There is an attention to detail on the characters shots as well the text is easy to read for the banter between the characters. The game does not support a colorblind mode; however, the game is very easy to see the colors in the game. In our playtesting of the game, we did not encounter any graphic issues that would be offensive to younger gamers, if anything the game is very family friendly. Audio for Lazy Galaxy: Rebel Story is really mixture of 16-bit style mini music that fits into the game. As with most shooters the game music will either get you into the game or not and Lazy Galaxy: Rebel Story does a good job on its background music. As the in-game music is not in your face as like other shooters, Lazy Galaxy: Rebel Story music is there enough to compliment the game itself. Also, the game sound effects like bullets shooting, ships being destroyed, and other sound effects are done well enough to hear with ease. As the game does not have any spoken dialog, there is nothing offensive to hear for younger gamers. The game is in 5.1 surround sound but in our playthrough it is fine to hear from either a gaming headset or even in stereo sound. Controls for Lazy Galaxy: Rebel Story are very easy to pick up and play. As the left thumb stick is to control, there is a fire button, change fleet formation, and a special weapon button. As the game control design is for both newer gamers to shooters as well to veterans. In our playtesting we notice that all our gamers were able to pick up and play the game without any trouble. This makes the game more approachable to newer gamers as they do not need to learn a lot of button sequences to enjoy the game. As the game does not need a special controller, it is ok to use the standard controller for your console.
“Lazy Galaxy: Rebel Story allows both newer shooter fans and veterans alike to enjoy the game at their pace. Also having the ability to have different ships in your fleet is a cool bonus that adds a new dynamic to the game.”
Family Friendly
What makes Lazy Galaxy: Rebel Story a great overall shooter for fans and non-fan alike is the different levels of difficulty. In the office we have different gamers of skill levels and that hardcore gamers and newer gamers to shooters were able to enjoy Lazy Galaxy: Rebel Story. This makes it a great shooter for any gamers in your gaming family. Another thing that makes Lazy Galaxy: Rebel Story great is offline co-op. This allows gamers to play co-op on the screen and enjoy the game more. Some of the different allies that you gain throughout the game will need to be powered up and build a friendship with you. This encourages multiple playthroughs and different styles of allies to use to play the game. Now for those that are in your gaming family that are looking for a challenge, there is hard difficulty setting that do offer permadeath for your allies. Now we would recommend not to try this mode till you better understand the general gameplay. Lazy Galaxy: Rebel Story is a fun game for all as it is an easy game to get into. Now some of the complaints that we here had at the office. One of the major ones is that we wished that there were more levels in the game. A good gamer can get through the story mode within 45 minutes to an hour without any trouble. Also, at times the action would get wild on screen so on smaller screens it became a little hard to see the action. Also, we wish that there was online play, having the ability to have online play would have made it more fun. Outside of this, Lazy Galaxy: Rebel Story is a great game to have in your digital library. Also, in our special needs gaming testing, we did not encounter any issues with the game graphics, sound or even controls. All our special need’s gamers loved the game and gameplay. If anything, we highly recommend Lazy Galaxy: Rebel Story for special needs gamers to play.
