King Oddball is an skill based physics puzzle game in which you are King Oddball and you have to progress throughout the game destroying items per level and doing in style and finesse.
General Gameplay
As the game play is like the style of launch and destroy ala Angry Birds, King Oddball follows this formula but with a twist, instead of a launcher you use a super long tongue from King Oddball. You progress from level to level destroying items that are in your way to progress to the next level. The game has a unique physics that you have to learn in order to launch the boulders towards the targets. This puts an interesting twist to hit your targets with.
Audio
The game has background music and some sound effects that add to the gameplay, however nothing else. Is this a bad thing? Well no as the game is mostly based on puzzle solving, music is not a big issue with this game. For those that have 5.1 surround sound, the game does not support it, but honestly it does not need it. Also from our play testing, we did not run into any sound or background music that would be offensive to any members of the family.
Visuals
King Oddball visuals as basic, but that is a good thing. With the grainy like textures and basic shapes, the game main character comes to life in a funny visual way. The game does a great job of showcasing the game to be a charming puzzle game without being over the top. The game design is very approachable for anyone that wants to play the game. We during our playtest found the game to be very charming and funny with the winning animation of King Oddball and his facial express. For families that are concerned about anything being offensive to anyone in the family, rest assured that there is nothing in the game that is offensive. There is no colorblind mode, however the game does not need it as the colors are easy to see and identify.
Controls
The game controls are very easy to pick up and play. With one button to launch the boulder to the enemy that is it. Anyone can pick up and play this game without any issues. As with most physics based puzzle games, King Oddball is no different. The game is meant to be a pick up and play style game and it is. For our special needs gaming test, we did not see any issues with controls with our special needs gamers and they were able to play the game without any issues.
King Oddball is one of those game that is a fun to both watch and play!
