FoxyLand 2

Save your children from the evil wolves in the sequel of the FoxyLand series.

General Gameplay

In the sequel from the first FoxyLand game, you and and your wife must work to save your children from the evil wolves that kidnap your children.  With 40 levels to go through, special secret levels and more coins and cherries to collect in this follow up to the original game.  The Game Visuals in FoxyLand 2 is still drawn like the first game.  The game is presented in a 8-bit retro style design like the first game.  Everything from the characters, enemies, menus and background are all done in this style.  The game colors are still the game from the first game with bright vivid colors and as the game does not support a colorblind mode, it is not needed as the game’s colors are very easy to see on the screen for any gamers.  The game graphics are very easy to see and tell what in the game is.  In our play testing, we did not encounter any issues with the game graphics, again the game is very family friendly.  Audio in FoxyLand 2 is very 8-bit.  All the sounds that you would hear from the background music, actions, and enemies are presented in the 8-bit style.  The game is in 2.0 stereo sound and as the game is not in 5.1 surround sound it sounds perfect for a game like this.  The game uses text to forward the story and there is no spoken dialog.  In our play testing we did not hear anything that would be offensive to younger gamers to hear. Again FoxyLand 2 is a very family friendly game.  Controls in FoxyLand 2 is very simple and easy to use.  The game uses the left thumb stick to move the character, a jump button and a button to throw cherries at the enemies.  The controls settings are just like the first game, so if you have played the original game, you will be right at home with the control’s settings in FoxyLand 2.  One new feature that the game offers is that you can “wall jump” where you can bounce the walls and reach higher locations.  As the game has secret locations this helps with reaching new locations.  In our play testing, we did not run into any issues with the game controller settings.  The game is very family friendly and easy to play the game.

“Just like the first game, FoxyLand 2 is all about collecting coins, and getting to the next level.  Co-op plays allows a new dynamic to play the game, however no health bar makes the game harder for casual gamers to play the game”

Family Friendly

FoxyLand was a fun game to play and when we heard that the sequel was in the works, we were excited to see what the developer can do with a fun, simple, family friendly game.  Having more levels to play on was a big plus and co-op play made the game even more exciting to play.  Now that being said let’s talk about the elephant in the room, the removing of the health bar.  As the game is an action/platform it is all about running, jumping and collecting cherries and coins to get to the end of the level.  Without a health bar it made the game a lot harder as one hit can defeat you and have you start over the level, unless you reach a in level checkpoint.  This made it harder for gamers that are not used to play games like this enjoy the game.  Now the gamers that tested the game liked the game and were able to play the game, however the non platform gamers had a harder time playing and completing levels because of the harder levels.  At times this did cause some frustration for some gamers and some even stop playing the game.  This new change made it harder for parents and grandparents to play the game with younger gamers as they would get defeated in mid-level and must start over the level repeatedly.  We would recommend the game to anyone that liked the first FoxyLand game but be aware that with some of these changes that not all the gamers in your gaming family may be able to enjoy the game.  We recommend watching some gameplay footage of the game and see for yourself if this is a game that be enjoyable for all gamers in your gaming family.  Now that said if you are a fan of platform games and with a little challenge you will enjoy the game.  Again, we are not saying that FoxyLand 2 is a bad game but more of a challenging game for some, however at the price point at $4.99 it is not too much of an investment for your gaming library.  In our special needs game testing, we did not run into any issues with the game visuals, audio or controller settings.  The game is very special needs gaming friendly.

Closing

FoxyLand 2 brings some much-needed changes.  More levels, co-op play and secret levels, but no health bar and some really challenging levels for non platform gamers can be a turn off for some gamers.  Best to watch gameplay of the game before picking this up for your digital library.
