Flutter Bombs

Become a butterfly and take on other insects in this twin stick shooter where you defend your grove.

General Gameplay

You as a butterfly must go from level to level to fight off insects, other creatures, avoiding environmental traps and upgrade your weapons to fight a boss at the end of the level.  Flutter Bombs offers local 4-player co-op support, 10 different butterflies to choose from, survival and boss rush mode.  The Game Visuals our beautiful to see in motion.  Vivid colors and backdrops of the butterflies, enemies and environments showcase how beautiful the game is.  The game colors pop on screen and it is a total joy to see in motion.  All the game characters, objects and backgrounds are drawn easily enough to see what is going on at any moment.  As the game is very colorful, for those that suffer from colorblindness or red/green visual impairment, in our playtesting we did not have any gamers have any issues with the colors, or even game content, if anything the game was very family friendly with the game visuals.  The Audio for Flutter Bombs are light tunes in the background when playing the game.  There are the noises from the insects, backgrounds, enemies and weapons fire and bombs from your butterfly.  There is a chime when you run out of your primary weapon.  If anything, the game background music is mellow for a shooter like this, however it works.  There is no spoken dialog in the game and in our playtesting, we did not encounter anything offensive to younger gamers.  The game is in 5.1 surround sound and sounds fine in either a surround sound environment or a 2.0 stereo sound.  The Controls in Flutter Bombs are very easy to use and play.  As the game is a twin stick shooter, the left thumb stick controls the character, where the right on is to move the butterfly.  There is a speed burst on the left shoulder button and a button for using the bomb.  The controls are very easy to get use to and play for both newer shooter fans and experience shooters.  In our playtesting we did not encounter any issues with the controls and found them to be very easy to get use to.  As the game does not need a special controller, the standard one that you use for the console should be fine.

“Flutter Bombs is a beautiful, but brutal twin stick shooter that is great for any hardcore shooter fans in your digital library”

Family Friendly

Let’s start off by saying that this is a fun game, very hard but fun to play, especially when there are 2 or more gamers playing the game.  As Flutter Bombs is a very fast pace game, at times it is meant to be play via co-op.  Take it from us, the action can get very fierce in levels where there is a lot coming at you.  To call this a “bullet hell” style of shooter would be a mis categorization, if anything it would be more of an enemy hell shooter.  One of the things that makes this an unique shooter is that you have to get nectar from plants around the level as it powers your main weapon, that is a bar that is used also for your bombs as well, so it adds a bit of strategy to when and where you use your bombs and when to refill you primary weapon.  What makes this game more for seasoned shooter fans is that your butterfly can get kill with one hit from environment dangers per level.  In a fast pace game like this, it does cheapen some deaths in the game, but once you get used to the level and know what to avoid then it is not much of an issue.  Solo shooter fans will like the game but honestly, we had a blast playing the game in co-op, as it offers more depth on helping your other team mates and coordinate on taking down stronger enemies and bosses.   The only complaint during our playtesting was that the action at times can get hard to follow but this was a minor issue.  In our special needs game testing, we did not encounter any issues with the game graphics, audio or even controls.  If anything, the game is very special needs friendly with its approach to the game itself.  Also, as the game is rated E10 – Everyone 10 and Up, we personally felt that the game should have received a E – For Everyone rating as the game does not have nothing violent about it expect fantasy violence that you would see on a children friendly cartoon.  Again, this is our opinion and experience with shooters.

Closing

Flutter Bombs is a great co-op shooter that is fun to play in a group.  With different styles of butterflies to use, a boss rush mode, and survival mode, there is everything for any shooter fan out there in your gaming library.
