Fission Superstar X

Take Dr. Leopold bomb across a tour of the solar system in this rouge 2D shooter.

General Gameplay

Fission Superstar X is a 2D shooter where you have to take Dr. Leopald bomb Celine across the solar system to show his creation.  The Game Visuals are presented in a colorful, carton style with vivid colors and a 16-bit style to the graphics.  Everything from the main spaceship, enemies, characters, and backgrounds are drawn very well and detail.  The game flows very well even when there is a lot of action on the screen and there is no slowdown in the action on screen.  In our playtesting, we did not see anything offensive in the graphics of the game (we feel more that the game should have been rated E10 vs. the T – For Teen rating that it received). Audio in Fission Superstar X is very 16-bit in its presentation.  The game has it fair share of laser shots, ships exploding, and other sound effects that you would hear in a space shooter.  The game does not contain any spoken audio but more of on-screen text to tell the story.  There is background music that is also in each level that also is great to listen to as it matches the game style.  In our playthrough of the game, we did not encounter anything offensive to younger gamers ears.  The Controls for Fission Superstar X are vey easy to use in the game.  The left thumb stick controls the ship, where the right one controls aiming the ship weapons.  There is a shield that you can use with the left trigger to block enemies weapons fire as well the right trigger to fire your weapons.  The game controller settings are very user friendly, allowing both new shooter fans and veterans to play the game without any problems.  In our playtesting, we did not encounter any issues with the controls and all our game testers found it very easy to control and play.

“Fission Superstar X is a  fantastic shooter that is tough, but fun to play. With a unique cast of characters, graphics and challenges, this is a must have game for any shooter fans in your gaming family.”

Family Friendly

First off Fission Superstar X is a hard shooter, but before you get turned off on a hard game let us explain why this is a great game to have.  Even though that you progress in the game and get defeated and must start over, the game teaches you resource and crew management.  So, in every playthrough you learn how to better manage your resources.  The game has a risk/reward system where after each level, you must decide what to do, repair your ship? Recruit new crew? Go to the spaceport to get better weapons, defenses? Each level gives you a chance to choose what to do and how to move forward.  Levels last around 1-3 minutes depending on what path that you want to go on and how you proceed.  The game opens a lot of possibilities on what way you play.  As you get better crew, you can last longer in each level.  You start off on your ship having blind spots where you cannot fire your guns from and as you add more crew this opens up the ability to shoot your weapons in all direction.  Also as you are doing this, you have to manage your power gage, do you try to shoot down an enemy or better protect your ship? These types of challenges give you a better play through of the Fission Superstar X.  We had gamers that at first did not like being defeated a lot but once they learned how the game mechanics work, they started to enjoy the game a lot more.  So much more where they were getting a lot further in the game.  Now Fission Superstar X is not for all types of gamers in your gaming family, so for non-shooter fans they may not enjoy the game as much as shooter fans, but in our playtesting all of our gaming family really enjoyed the game.  One thing that was a discussion here at the office was the rating of the game.  Now the ESRB gave the game a Teen rating and we felt based on the cartoon graphics it should have received a E10 – Everyone 10 and Up rating, the reason being is that outside of the cartoon graphics, there was nothing that a gamer over the age of 9 and up would see in the game that would not be offensive.  Again, our advice to parents/guardians out there is to watch playthrough of the game online and make the best choice for your gaming family.  In our special needs game testing, we did not have any issues with the game graphics, audio or even controls.  The game is very special needs gaming friendly and all our special needs gamers really had a great time with the game.

Closing

Fission Superstar X is a tough as nails shooter, but a fun one once you get into the groove of the game it becomes a fun challenging game.  A must have game for any shooter fans out there for your digital library.
