General Gameplay

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is a first-person shooter from the hit franchise.  In this installment you play as agent “Bell” working with a task force to stop a shadowy figure named Perseus from stealing nukes and starting a world war, during the cold war between America and Russia.  Black Ops Cold War offers a single player story mode, the multiplayer that its famous for as well a new Zombies mode.  The game is optimized for the new Xbox one Series X/S and PlayStation 5.  The Game Visuals are the best that we have ever seen for the Call of Duty series. The game visuals are truly clear to see on the screen in motion, characters, backgrounds, weapons, and cut scenes are all done very well in detail to showcase the game as being a graphical masterpiece.  The game both in 4K and in 1080P is quite easy to see on any screen and easy to tell what is going on in the game. Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War supports a colorblind mode and there are different options to choose from for those that suffer from a colorblind illness.  As the game is a Mature rated game, there is a great deal of war violence in the game and as the game is a popular game online, we highly recommend that the game be played by gamers over the age of 15.  In our play testing, we did not encounter any issues with the game graphics and found the game to be very mature gaming friendly.  Audio in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is also well done.  The game is an action/shooter game so all the sound effects that you would hear in a shooter from weapons fire, to explosions, banter and characters speaking to each other and to others, and general background sounds are all here.  The spoken dialog is also well done and like a blockbuster movie.  The game audio is presented in 5.1 surround sound as well in 2.0 stereo sound.  As the game story is told both in cut scenes and in game spoken dialog there is a lot of language used in the game.  It is not over the top and used to better tell the story of the game.  As the game is a Mature rated game, we advise again that gamers over the age of 15 should play the game.  In our play testing outside of the language in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War we did not encounter any issues with the audio in the game.  Controls in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War are very well done.  As the game is a shooter, the controller setting is designed around this gameplay style.  As with most shooters, the left thumb stick is used to control the character where the right thumb stick is used to aim, the right trigger is used to fire the weapon, and the left one is to aim down the sights, the shoulder buttons are for grenades and special weapons.  The face buttons are used for jumping, ducking and other functions.  All these settings can easily be adjusted in the setting menu.  As with shooters, both online and offline, response from the controller to the actions in the game is important, and Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War controller settings are fast and accurate. In our play testing, we did not run into any issues with the controller settings of the game.  As an added featured, for those that want to use a keyboard and mouse for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War allows the gamer to set up a keyboard and mouse setup for both online and offline gaming, this is essential for those that cannot use a standard controller and rather use the traditional setting for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War.  Outside of keyboard and mouse usage, there is no need for a special controller for the game, the game controller settings and use are very special needs gaming friendly.

“Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is an example of a AAA game that has something for everyone, from a fantastic single player story to a solid multiplayer and Zombie mode.  Anyone that is a fan of shooters and the Call of Duty series should not miss this game!”

Family Friendly

Those that are gamers will know that every year for the past decade that there has been at least a Call of Duty game out there released, some were very well done, and others had their fair share of glitches and online issues but one thing that they did well in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is to create a well-balanced game both for those that love a strong story mode, and for those that like to game with others.  We all know that Call of Duty Series is king in the first-person shooter realm of online gaming, but the games multiplayer is where the game shines.  Activision has taken steps in the past couple of games to make sure that the online community as well in game content is always balanced. Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War multiplayer is always being updated with new balance fixes for multiplayer and other tweaks to the multiplayer platform for the game.  This is a big push as it shows that the developer is making moves to keep the game fresh and balance for all to enjoy online.  The multiplayer portion of the game and the many game modes is well done and very balanced.  Love lone wolf style of multiplayer gamers, there is a game mode for you, love playing different types of team-based gaming, there is a mode for you, even for more hardcore gamers, there are game modes and maps for you to play in.  The ability to tweak your gun and how it works from sights, stocks, and other attachments to each weapon to your way of gaming, this is a big plus for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War as it allows the gamer to experiment with different types of guns and combinations in the game.  Another great mode that made a comeback this game is the Zombies mode.  The Zombies mode is a great co-op mode that allows up to 4 players to go up against hordes of zombies.  This is a great gaming mode for those that want to play with others vs. against them in multiplayer.  The Zombies mode has enough gaming to it to have some serious and fun sessions with others.  One of the bigger parts of the game is its rich story mode.  The single player mode consists of a typical spy and 80’s cold war drama to it to be entertaining.  The single player has multiple endings and side missions, outside of the main campaign to be entertaining.  There are some collectables that go towards which ending that you get based on choices and what you do during the single player.  This is a great single player as it gives you enough to play and go back to play again to see what ending you get based on the choices that you make in the game.  The single player portion of all Call of Duty games have always been the stronger point of the series and this one is a great single player story experience.  Overall if you or anyone in your gaming family is a Call of Duty fan, then you will love Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War.  The only complaint that we had and it’s a minor one is that some of the guns and attachments are harder to obtain and lots of multiplayer gaming is needed but this is designed to have you earn these attachments and new guns then using a microtransaction to get these items, outside of this Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is a fun and very solid game to have.  Now for those that have the Xbox One Series X/S, or the PlayStation 5.  If you purchase the game and have the newer consoles, we recommend purchasing the cross-platform version of the game so in case you are or want to play it on the Xbox One, or PlayStation 4 you still can. In our special needs game testing, we did not encounter any issues with the game visuals, audio, or controls, as the game can be played with a keyboard and mouse and we have tested this with this as well as the Xbox Special Needs controller, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is very special needs gaming friendly.

With a solid single player, fantastic multiplayer and Zombies mode, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is a great game that has something for everyone.  A great game that should not be missed and a must have for your digital library.
