General Gameplay
Donut County is all about starting off as a small hole and as you progress throughout the game you grow larger in size of the hole and swallow everything in sight to complete the level. The game story is told from flashbacks of each citizen and what happen to them when they order a donut from BK (A Recoon that works for the Trash King) and his human friend Mira. The Game Visuals are fantastic for the game. The game is drawn more in vectors and they are very detail to showcase all the characters, objects, settings, backgrounds and overall fell of the game. The game graphic detail is extremely easy to see on the screen and what is going on within the game and its action. As the game does not support a color-blind mode, it is not needed as the colors on the screen are quite easy to see on the screen. The game is optimized for the Xbox series X and PlayStation 5 in 4K and even in 4K the game looks great in motion. In our playtesting, we did not encounter any issues with the game graphics and found the game to be very family friendly. Audio in Donut County is a very calming soundtrack that is perfect for the game. The game uses a soft style of music for the background of the game, menus, and general gameplay. The game has a great soundtrack for each level that fits well for the gameplay. As the story is told by via text on the screen, there is gibberish that is accompanied with the game and it fits well for the game. Donut County is presented both 5.1 surround sound as well in 2.0 stereo sound and the game sounds well in both formats. In our playtesting, we did not encounter any issues with the game audio and found the game to be very family friendly. Controls in Donut County are extremely easy to use. The left thumb stick controls the hole, and one button is used for the upgrade that you earn later in the game. Donut County is extremely easy to control and very pick up and play friendly. As the game is all about moving the hole around the level, the controls are extremely fast and responsive on all consoles and there were no issues controlling the game. In our playtesting, we did run into any issue with the controller settings or even controls in Donut County. The game controller settings and controls are very family friendly.

There are games out there that are just fun to play, to experience for the story or the dynamics of the game or even other reasons, Donut County is one of those games that must be in your digital library. The game alone is such a fun game that there are so many reasons why this is a must have game, but we will cover some of the greatest aspects of the game that makes this a must have game. The story is one of the funniest and family friendly storylines that we have seen in a game in a long while. It is all about BK and he trying to earn enough points to get a quadcopter from his job, but while he is delivering donuts to customers across Donut County via a delivery app, it creates a hole that swallows anything and everything it in its path. As this is going on, all that fell victim are 999 feet below stuck from the hole and the story is told from what happen to them and them falling into the void. As you go through each story, you face different challenges and puzzles to solve in each level. They can range from making soup, to setting off fireworks and other challenges (easy to figure out in the gameplay) As you progress in the game and story you discover that BK is at fault and he and help from Mira must help fix everything that is going on. The game does not hold your hand on each level and allows you to discover all the surprises and secrets in the game. Normally this may be an annoyance for some gamers, but in Donut County it works well. Our game testers had a great time discovering how to complete each level and the different ways to approach the level and how to use the tools provided to get to the goal of the level. Another great aspect of the game is the controls. The controls are super easy to use and master and this allows all ages to play the game without any trouble. Games like this are why gaming is fun for the family and Donut County did a fantastic job in the controls. Easy controls also allow gamers with special needs to play the game without any trouble, which is a big plus. Donut County is a fun game, plain simple. With all the things that we listed in our review this is a must have game for any gamers that love a lighthearted funny story, easy control and not a frustrating game to play. The only complaint, and a minor one at that is that the game is short. The game can be completed within 2-3 hours or one sitting. Now its more about experiencing the story and going through the game more than anything else, but the game allows you to go back to any level and replay it which adds a lot of replay value for those that want to try something different to try to discover a secret in a specific level. In our special needs game testing, we did not find any issues with the game visuals, audio, or controls, if anything this is a very special needs game friendly.
