Neon Chrome is a top down cyberpunk shooter with rouge like elements. You must blast your way through enemies and reach to the top of a tower to take out a mad dictator that is causing havoc in the world. With light RPG elements to upgrade your character, multiple enemies, great boss battles, and random generated levels. Neon Chrome has a lot to offer as a twin stick shooter.
General Gameplay
Neon Chrome is a twin stick shooter where you go from floor to floor, taking out enemies, upgrading your character and fight bosses. Any gamers out there that love twin stick shooters will know the formula about the game like this. The Game Visuals are created in a darker color to set the mood of the game being a darker future where a dictator is running the world from his building. The game graphics are sharp and easy to see as the game is from a top-down view. The enemies and characters are easy to see on the screen and the graphics are presented in a futuristic neon glow style. The movement of the game is also easy to follow as the game is designed to be a twin stick shooter so seeing all the motion of the game around you. The game does not offer a colorblind mode, but with the darker colors of the game it is not needed. In our playtesting we did not see anything that would be offensive to younger gamers, as the game is a shooter, the game graphic match this and there was little to no blood in the game. Audio in Neon Chrome is a lot of what you would expect from a shooter. Lots of weapon fire, destruction sounds, enemies’ banter and the antagonist speaking in between levels. The background music is futuristic and fits the game overall. The game sound is presented in a 5.1 surround sound environment and sounds well in 2.0 stereo. We recommend that to get the full experience of the game to play the game with a gaming headset. In our playtesting, we did not hear any foul language that would be offensive to younger gamers, The T – For Teen rating is more for the “digital violence against human characters” then language or the audio in the game. Controls in Neon Chrome are very easy to get use to. The game is designed to be a twin stick shooter where the left thumb stick moves the character and the right is to aim at enemies. There is a fire button on the right trigger and a button to use your special weapon. Also, a button to use to activate switches, doors, and get loot. The game is very easy to control for any type of gamers. In our playtesting, we did not encounter any issues with the game controller settings or even controls in Neon Chrome. The game does not need a special controller so you can use the standard controller to play the game. Also the control are very special needs gaming friendly.
“Neon Chrome is a fantastic shooter that will test your skills in a game like this, you will die a lot but it will make you a better gamer and more prepared for the harder levels in the game.”
Family Friendly
At first when we started up Neon Chrome, we thought to ourselves that this was just “another run of the mill shooter” boy where we wrong. Neon Chrome has a lot of dept to the game. From the random generated levels, to guns and power ups to even exciting and challenging enemies and bosses. This is how a great twin stick shooter should be done. As we said before, you will die, a lot, but, take it as a learning curve. The power ups that you obtain throughout your playthrough can be used in other gameplay sessions. You can also purchase power ups before you start your next run to give you a better chance to have an upper hand. So before you start your run, you can purchase upgrades, weapons, and slots to use as addons for your character, also the game which we feel is a great feature allows you to choose the type of character that you feel like playing. You can go from a “tank” role with more health and slots for addons to a “hacker” where you can hack certain loot boxes for more cash or other things, and a “stealth” character for those that want to be more discreet in their playstyle. All of them have their advantages and disadvantages in their playstyle but do the job. The bosses and enemies in the game are unique and at times can pose a challenge but learning how they react to you and their patterns will help you in the game. One of the cool features of the game is its background music, it sounds like something that you would hear from the movie The Running Man and we have to say that it matches the vibe and tone of the game. It was a great joy hearing the background music and helped with the presentation of the game itself. The game offers other modes, like a 2-4 player co-op and battle style game but, all our reviews were so happy with just the single player of the mode. The game is a fun game for all ages and as the game does ramp up the difficulty in later levels, it is not a game breaker but more of understand what weapons to use as well power ups to get past the enemies. Also, if you get defeated on a level, you can restart on that floor and work your way back to that level and try to beat the level/boss. If you are a fan of fast paced twin stick shooters, or even a shooter fan in general, you will love Neon Chrome. The only complaint that we had was that some later levels can get harder where there is a lot of enemies on the screen, but this was a minor gripe from our game testers. In our special needs game testing, we did not run into any issues with the game graphics, audio or even controls. The game is very special needs gaming friendly.
