General Gameplay
You are a marble and going on a racing course with different ramps, power ups and platforms to reach the goal. The game at its core is a racing game but you are a marble vs. a car or other vehicle. The Game Visuals are very beautiful to see in motion. I was surprised that the game ran in 60 FPS both in the docking cradle and mobile, in which makes the game very fluid in its motion. The colors in the game are very vibrant and easy to see. From the marble itself to backgrounds, platforms, and other objects in the game are done well enough to see both on the mobile screen as well on any SMART TV. The game does not support a colorblind mode and for the most part it is not needed, only time there was any small issues were when playing the game in the hand-held mode where some older gamers had a little hard time seeing some of the colors. This was minor issue at best so if you have an older gamer in your gaming family please keep this in mind. Audio for Marble It Up! is a great mixture of upbeat style of trance and techno music. Everything from the marble rolling on the ramps, to jumps, power ups and everything else sounds fantastic in the game. The game sounds great in either a surround sound system and in stereo mode. We recommend playing the game when in mobile mode with a pair of headsets on as the in-game music can get a little loud at times, but still overall a great soundtrack for the game that matches the game play well. In our playtesting, we did not encounter anything with the games audio as there is no in game spoken dialog the game is perfect for all ages. Again parents/guardians please use caution and have gamers in your gaming family use a headset for 2 hours and take a 15-minute break in between. The Controls for Marble It Up! Are simple as the left thumb stick controls the marble, the right one controls the camera angle and there is a button for jumping, and another to use a power up. The game controls are designed to make the game very pick up and play friendly, so you can get into playing the game. Now this is where it gets interesting, in our playtesting so gamers were able to get into the game without any problems and others that are new to games that use momentum were having a harder time to play the game. Now we will go more into this in our Family Friendly Section of the review but keep this in mind for gamers that are not used to momentum style of games.

This was an interesting conversation in the office about Marble It Up! As older gamers like myself that grew on classic games like Marble Madness, it was very hard for us not to keep referring to that classic game. In one hand if this was a remake of the original, Marble It Up! Nailed it by keeping the same formula as the classic but brought it to a modern age of gaming. The game by far is one of the more fun games for all ages on the Nintendo Switch. Just racing to the goal, itself it fun and trying to beat your old time, and the ability to see a leader board to see who is the fastest in the game around the would is a great treat. Now one of the major complaints that came from testing was the control of the marble. Gamers in your gaming family will get frustrated with the controls as they will think that the games controls are broken, this is not the case. Games like this that use kinetic motion for how the game play is and with that some of our game testers got lost. Some got frustrated because they were not able to roll the way they wanted and stop on a dime. Marble It Up! Is designed to use kinetic motion so it feels more like really rolling a marble, so if you have a gamer that would get frustrated, let them play in the tutorial section for a while to get a better hold of how the game moves. Overall the game is a lot of fun, but it is more aimed towards fans of racing games. So, we would highly recommend the game to any gamer fans in your gaming family that love racing games or even older gamers that loved Marble Madness from the old NES days. In our special needs game testing, we did not encounter any issue with the game visuals, audio, or even controls, if anything most of our special need’s gamers got into the game and loved it from the start. One of the things that we wished that the developer included was either more levels, or even a level creator, this would have added more replay value but hoping when a sequel comes out that they will add this feature and online custom level sharing.
Closing
Marble It Up! Is a fast, frantic racing game for those that love racing or even marble games. The kinetic motion will have some players mad at first but once they get their hang of it. A great game for your Nintendo Switch digital library.
