Take a ship on in a world, both racing and shooting on a linear course and take on the world boss on each level. In Lost Wing you play on a 360 degree courses, shooting and obtaining the best time and score.
General Gameplay
Lost Wing is a action/racer linear platform where with fast reflexes, good shooting and skill that will get you the victory in the game. This is a game that is truly for fans that love fast racing shooter titles. The Game Visuals are very polygon and well drawn on the screen. All of the graphics from the main ship to objects, obstacles and enemies are drawn in great detail. The game does a great job of showcasing the graphics and making it feel like a true racer/shooter. The color pallet is very cool colors and very easy to see in the game. Lost Wing does not offer a color blind mode but the colors are bright and vivid enough to see without any trouble. In our play testing, we did not encounter any issues with the game graphics and found the game to be very family friendly. Audio in Lost Wing is done very well. The game offers a great EDM/Techno style of soundtrack. The game has the standard sounds that you would expect to hear from a space shooter/racer. From the laser fire, to the ship engines, and even level sounds, all are done very well and easy to hear. The game is presented in both 5.1 surround sound as well in 2.0 stereo mode. We recommend hearing the game in either sound settings as the game soundtrack is fantastic to hear in motion. In our play testing, we did not hear anything that would be offensive to younger gamers in the game audio, as the game soundtrack is very family friendly. Controls in Lost Wing are done very well and very easy to pick up and play the game. As the game is a hybrid racer/shooter, the left and right triggers are use to speed up and slow down, there is a button to use your weapon, bomb and also to jump as there will be obstacles in the way during the level, the shoulder buttons are used to change the music track during the gameplay and very fun to use as you can change the music on the fly. The game controller responses are very fluid and quick and is needed for a game like this. The game controller setting is very user friendly for anyone that can pick up and play the game. In our play testing, we did not run into any trouble with the game controller settings and founds the game to be very family friendly for all gamers. As the game is a console game, there is no need to use a special controller. The standard controller for the console of your choice is fine to use for the game.
“A very fast paced game that is fun to play for those that love rail based shooter, but Lost Wing loose its identity in trying to be both a shooter and a railed based racer”
Family Friendly
When we got a chance to play Lost Wing, we saw a great shooter from the gate. A game in which that allowed you to go from course to course to race to see how well you can do on several tries and earn experience towards better ships and scores, and for the most part this is a great formula for a game like this, but this is also where the faults also happen. The game goes from being a rail based racer to a shooter and at times it becomes a little daunting for gamers to know what to do. This hybrid style at times can be confusing for some gamers and this makes it more harder for some of the gamers that were playing the game to try to concentrate on the track and try to take out objects in the way of the ship. Now for more experienced gamers that have played a game like this, this may not be an issue but for non experience gamers this does become a challenge. During our review, some of our gamers loved the racing aspect of the game and did find it easy to shoot objects on the track to get a larger score and power to use their weapon, but where some of them found it more challenging was when the track would go both inverted and start to spin, this cause a lot of confusion for the gamers. Now for more seasoned gamers that are used to this, this was a fun and challenging part of the game and honestly was a fun part of the game that added more of an challenge. Also another issues was that the first track for most of the gamers that reviewed the game found it hard to get passed even on the easy setting. Now again the game is not designed to be a cakewalk and challenging but this cause frustration for some of the reviewers during the review. Now to say that Lost Wing is a bad game would be a bad statement, if anything Lost Wing is a great game, but not for everyone. If anything we would recommend the game for gamers in your gaming family that love fast paced shooters and racers, but for the casual gamers this may be a little too much for them to play. We highly recommend watching some of the gameplay footage from our video and of others playing to reach the best choice for yourself and your gaming family. Outside of some of the concerns that we have with Lost Wing, in our special needs gaming testing we did not run any issues with the game visuals, audio or even controls, if anything Lost Wing is very special needs gaming friendly.
Closing
With fast paced gameplay, Lost Wing is a great hybrid racer/shooter but in the gameplay it losses its identical by trying too much into the gameplay. This game is for more seasoned and hardcore gamers that are used to a game like this.
