Freddie Spaghetti

Meet Freddie a strand of spaghetti that is a creation of Dr. P Starr that is a self aware and living out his life discovering adventure while going through the world.

General Gameplay

Freddie Spaghetti is a physics-based action platform game where you guide Freddie from level to level and different obstacles to overcome to reach the goal.  The game is designed around using the physics to get Freddie around to reach the goal.  The Game Visuals for Freddie Spaghetti are quite outstanding.  As the game is optimized for the Xbox One Series X and PlayStation 5 to take advantage of the graphics and even on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 the game looks great.  The game graphics are very detail and you can easily see everything in the game from the strand of spaghetti to the objects in the game and backgrounds.  The game colors are very bright and vivid and easy to see on the screen.  As the game does not support a colorblind mode, is it not needed as the colors are easy enough to see on the screen.  In our play testing, we did not encounter any issues with the game graphics and found the game to be very family friendly for all to play.  Audio in Freddie Spaghetti is also done well.  The game audio is very clear and easy to hear.  The game has a standard soundtrack for each level, and it fits well for the game.  All of the sound effects that you would expect to hear in the game are there and also are used well in the game.  As the game story is told via narration by the game and it has its own feel to the game to tell the story of Freddie Spaghetti and its journey in the game.  The game is presented in 5.1 surround sound and also in stereo 2.0.  Both formats are fine to hear for the game.  In our play testing, we did not hear anything that would be offensive to anyone and very family friendly.  Controls in Freddie Spaghetti are very easy to control.  The left and right shoulder buttons are used to move and jump Freddie Spaghetti around the levels.  As the game progresses the game controls are designed for the character to move in more complex moves from fast running, jumping and other moves needed to complete each level.  We have some concerns about the controls, but we will address this in our Family Friendly section of our review.  As the game is on the consoles, the standard controller for your console if fine to use for the game and there is no need for a special controller to use for the game.  In our play testing we encounter some issues with the game controls but nothing that was so severe to not allow to play the game.

“Freddie Spaghetti is a game that has a funny and fun story but with bipolar levels that can go from very easy to frustrating this is a game that should be played by those that are looking for a serious challenge of a game that is based in physics.”

Family Friendly

Freddie Spaghetti is a game when we received a review code that we were excited about playing.  From the trailers of the game, it gave us a feeling that this game was going to be like games like Untitled Goose Game.  We went into the game feeling that this was going to be a game like this and depending on how you go into this game, you will either be happy with this game or just disappointed.  One of the great aspects of Freddie Spaghetti is the story.  What’s not to love about playing as a strand of spaghetti and moving around the game causing havoc in the gaming world? This is where the game gets it right and wrong.  One of the things that made this game fun is playing each level and taking on the challenges for the level and trying to get Freddie to his goal.  There are moments of this game where it shines and honestly it is so much fun to play but there are also moments in later levels where the game goes sour.  Some of the levels are just so hard and frustrating to play where it comes to a point where you just want to just turn off the game and play something else.  The levels at times are so bipolar that it makes the game very hard to play even for a casual game.  For some of our play testers they reached levels that were so hard to play that they just gave up.  Even some of our more seasoned testers just got frustrated in the game levels as the physics did not work and made the game very difficult to play the game, especially for those that are with a special need or disabled that cannot control the game via the controller.  As the controls are easy but after a while if the hand/eye movement is not as sharp they may find the game to be a little hard to control.  In the gaming world there are times even simple controls can become a barrier for them to overcome to games, and this is one of those games.  To say that Freddie Spaghetti is a bad game is a bad view on it, if anything the game is more for those that are more seasoned with their controller skills and most of all patience.  Also, the lack of a checkpoint system in the level means most failures results going back to the beginning to the level and trying to reach the goal again.  Outside of the complaints that we outline in this review, there were no other issues that we encountered in the game.  In our special needs game testing, again with what we covered, there was no other issues that we saw, the game is very family and special needs friendly but be aware that sharp controller skills and patience is needed to play Freddie Spaghetti.

Closing

With a great story, and fun levels, Freddie Spaghetti is a game for those that are looking for a challenge in a physics-based game.  However, with frustrating levels and at time bad controls this is a game for those that are hard core fans of games like this.
